The 18 homes will be built at Staines Road in Hounslow and will raise the bar for low carbon emitting homes in a busy urban location.
The UK aims to cut carbon emissions by 80 per cent in 2050. To meet the highest green standard for homes Willmott’s will install 450 sq m of photovoltaic panels, a biomass plant and adopt rainwater harvesting.
The homes will be super insulated to ensure they have very low U values. Solar shading panels will also keep the structures cool in summer.
Willmott Dixon starts building work in July, with completion in October 2011. The development, designed by architects MEPK, comprises 14 flats and four houses for rent and shared ownership.
