Details of two of the first schools in the £230m building plan will go out to public consultation shortly. These are a new Roman Catholic school, which is a PFI build, and plans for the extensive refurbishment of North Chadderton school.
Depending on the outcome of the Government’s review into the future of BFS work, it is anticipated that planning applications will be submitted in July.
Work continues on the detail of the deal between the Council and Balfour Beatty with work on the two first sites due to start in January 2011.
Councillor Jack Hulme, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: “The BSF programme is currently under review as the new Government examines its spending priorities.
“Pending any decision on that we are simply continuing to proceed responsibly as a local authority with our plans to ensure that our BSF programme is in an advanced position to potentially secure funding.”
