The £75m first phase of building work to create a new campus for Salford University is due to start later this year.

The initial package of funded work will see the existing Chapman Building refurbished and extended and construction of a striking arts building.

The University also plans to enlist a developer to then build a student village followed by a programme of public space improvements near Salford Crescent Station, including outdoor lecture theatres and performance areas.

Construction of the student residences is planned to enter its initial stage in early 2012.

Dr Adrian Graves, the university’s deputy vice-chancellor, said: “Our campus plan is an incredibly exciting development in the life of the university. Our plans will forever transform the campus and give our students access to outstanding facilities and an experience of unparalleled quality.”
