Seven bidders in race for six Crossrail stations

Crossrail has named the shortlisted bidders for its six central London station projects worth £1.5bn.

Project bosses unveiled the line up for the four remaining London stations after naming shortlists for the £250m Paddington and £375m Farringdon stations earlier this year.

Andy Mitchell, Crossrail Programme Director said: “We are now in a position to confirm the shortlist for Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Liverpool Street and Whitechapel stations.”

Spurred on by its notable success on the main tunnel drive contracts, John Sisk in joint venture with Dragados has entered the fray to bid three of the four stations.

Another new face, contractor Lend Lease Construction, has opted to bid alone for Bond Street and Tottentham Court Road stations.

Laing O’Rourke appears to have dropped its link-up on Paddington and Farringdon stations with German group Strabag also to go it alone in tendering for Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road and Liverpool Street.

All firms shortlisted have now been formally invited to submit detailed tenders for these four remaining stations worth around £1bn.

This second phase in the central stations bidding process is likely to be more difficult to evaluate because Crossrail invited consortia to aggregate bids to include up to three stations where meaningful economies of scale can be achieved.

Judging by the shortlisting line-up several bidding consortium appear to be looking seriously at the option of taking on three jobs.
