Vinci jumped the queue of C Spencer, Galliford Try, Kier Northern, Laing O’Rourke and Wates and has now now been confirmed as principal contractor subject to a ten day call in period.
The contract makes up the first phase of the £350m regional shopping centre in the city known as City Sentral.
Site prep work is already well underway on the John Street site and once groundworks are finalised Vinci is due to move in to start the foundations and then build the competition winning scheme designed by signature architect Grimshaw.
Councillor Ruth Rosenau, Stoke-on-Trent City Council cabinet member for regeneration, said: “The appointment of the principal contractor is the next step in the build of the city’s brand new bus station facility.
“It is exciting to see work progressing on time for the opening in Autumn next year.”
The new bus station will provide purpose built new facilities for passengers in the heart of the city centre.
The build includes 22 new bus bays, much improved passenger waiting areas, refreshment kiosk, toilets and a striking design creating an impressive new gateway into the city.
