The project will provide 350 student accommodation units across 12 levels alongside retail and office space next to the Caledonian Road tube station in Islington.
Demolition is underway of the existing building to leave a three-storey façade which is being retained and incorporated into the new development.
The accommodation will comprise a mixture of 76 studio flats, 38 adaptable units and 236 units in cluster arrangements.
The development will also include 67,000 sq ft of retail area on the ground floor as well as office space across three floors at the north end of the site.
This project aims to achieve a BREEAM “Excellent” rating and is planning to employ low and zero carbon technology energy options in the form of solar photovoltaic panels and a combined heat and power system.
The contract will be handed over in June 2013, for occupation in the 2013/2014 academic year.
