Work gets underway this month on the 80,000 sq ft teaching facility, designed for both postgraduate and undergraduate students.
The development replaces several unoccupied buildings and a car park in Birmingham’s city centre on the edge of the historic Jewellery Quarter.
The planned four-floor, brick-clad building at Charlotte Street is designed to achieve a BREEAM Excellent and EPC energy rating B.
The architect on the scheme is Associated Architects, EC Harris is handling project management, while Couch Consulting Engineers is structural consultant and Couch, Perry & Wilkes is the mechanical and electrical consultant.
Peter Millett, Shepherd Construction’s managing director for the West Division, said: “We are due on-site in a couple of weeks and the project is scheduled to complete in June 2013.”
The new contract comes just months after Shepherd Construction completed the £66m new Bournville College at Longbridge. The builder is also currently delivering £76m of university projects across the country.
