Stockton on Tees Council has chosen Carillion as the preferred bidder for the combined North Shore Health Academy and ‘myplace’ youth facility.
The firm will also provide improvements for two existing academies sponsored by Teesside University at Thornaby Academy and Freebrough Academy.

The London Borough of Lambeth in association with education sponsor E-ACT has selected Carillion as the preferred bidder to deliver a new co-located academy and primary school on the site of the Fenstanton Primary School.
Work is expected to start in March, with completion scheduled for August 2013.
The London Academies Education Trust (LAET) has selected Carillion as the preferred bidder for the new Aylward Academy in Edmonton, which includes the refurbishment of the existing school buildings and a new extension.
As part of the same batched procurement, Carillion will also undertake improvements and new build extensions to four academies: the Nightingale Academy in Enfield for LAET, Richmond Park Academy and Greensward Academy in Essex for Academies Enterprise Trust and the Colchester Academy for Colchester Institute.
Work is expected to start in April and last for two years.
Carillion Group Chief Executive, Richard Howson, said: “We are delighted to have been selected as the preferred bidder for these academies, which builds on Carillion’s strong track record in the education sector, where we have recently delivered, or are in the process of delivering, around 150 new and refurbished schools and academies.”
