Morgan Sindall will start on site shortly on the scheme which will be anchored by an 85,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s, a 75-bed hotel, 24 shops and restaurants, offices and car parking.
Construction is scheduled for completion in 2013.
The town centre contract is a key scheme in the £1bn regeneration of the former MG Rover works.
Morgan Sindall is already building Birmingham City Council’s ‘myplace’ centre at Longbridge.
The three storey building is scheduled to open this summer and will provide a wide range of services to 13-19 year olds in the area.
Julian Price, area manager at Morgan Sindall said: “Longbridge is a transformational regeneration project which will deliver a new heart for the town centre.
“We’re looking forward to building on our strong relationship with St. Modwen and Birmingham City Council through our work on the new ‘myplace’ centre and this next phase in what is a very important project for the area.”
The opening of the town centre will bring St. Modwen’s investment at Longbridge up to £250m since its acquisition of the site in 2003.
The regeneration of Longbridge is a £1 billion project covering 468 acres.
