Peel Land & Property plans to transform the 26-acre brownfield site with a 1.9m sq ft scheme, known as Chatham Waters.
The mixed-use development will include offices, an education facility, an ‘EventCity’, hotel, apartments, town houses, food store as well as landscaped public areas.
James Whittaker, development director at Peel said, “We’re delighted that Medway Council has approved outline plans for Chatham Waters.
“It will regenerate and breathe new life into a significant area of the dockland and give the region a real economic boost.
“We will now evolve the plans further and continue to work with the Council and consult with the residents of Chatham to ensure we deliver a scheme the community is proud of.
He added: “We will also start preparing detailed plans for the first phase and we hope to be start building on the site next year.”
The outline planning success follows two years of discussion with Medway Council.
Indigo Planning, Planit ie, Traffic Transport & Highway Consultancy and 5 Plus Architects are advising Peel on the scheme.
