The plans put forward by LCP will see Pitsea swimming pool close to allow the major regeneration to take place.
Cllr Malcolm Buckley, cabinet member for environment said: “Pitsea town
centre is declining and in need of investment – this is not in any doubt,
and we have to take this opportunity for major private investment.
“Of course we would love to be able to regenerate the town centre and keep
the pool, but that is not living in the real world. We live in a world of
economic uncertainty, central government cuts and the stark reality that
there is less money to go around to provide services.
“We have therefore had to make a hard choice, but what I believe is the
right choice for local people.
“Doing nothing in the town is not an option. This project will create
hundreds of jobs and safeguard hundreds more for a local community that has
higher than average unemployment levels.”
