The two-year programme of works will see the demolition and removal of the existing concrete structure and reconstruction of the quay, including dredging works to deepen the approaches and berthing pocket.
The rebuild contract, which is worth £45m-£55m, will allow to allow larger ships to enter the dock.
Rebuilding and dredging work will be done in three phases consisting of around 300m of new quay in each to allow the existing operations to continue during the works.
