Around half the 30 staff have been laid off while administrators from Derby firm Smith Cooper look at selling assets.
A source said: “There are about 15 of us left and we will hear at the end of the week what will happen.”
The Ilkeston-based firm has over 30 years experience in site clearance and bulk excavation and boasts a large tipper fleet and hired operated plant service.
It has carried out major contracts for Bowmer & Kirkland, Morgan Sindall, Bam Nutall and Derby City and Mansfield councils.
